Welcoming 2016

Oh.My.God!

It's been so long since I last updated this very neglected blog of mine! One whole year and a half, to be exact. Tsk..tsk..tsk..

But...now I'm back. So..hello again, blog..

As a first entry of 2016, I'm not going to write a longish entry. I'll just upload pictures of my recent gathering with the 'original' circle of Sabahan Blogger ladies (at least three of them - Mimi, Carol and Lizee. The rest couldn't make it)

Our first meet up after the last (that would be back in 2010 I think) was on Jan 2nd, 2016 @ SOULed OUT. It's a newly opened restobar located at IMAGO KK Times Square. Place is a bit crowded, you need to book tables ahead if you are coming in groups. Price wise, can be a bit pricey and menus are limited. But, you can always try the Chef's recommendations.  Plus, I loved their signature Mojito drinks variants.

Here's our merry pictures, ringing in the New Year 2016.

Myself and the ever the sweet, Lizee

A shaky shot of Mimi and I. I guess I was a bit tipsy from the Lychee Mojito ;)

Lizee and I

The Chegu Carol and I

A wefie :)

Lizee, Mimi and Carol

We 'victimized' the ever attentive waiter to take this group shot :P

Group shot before heading back home.

Basically, it was all about "whatever is currently happening in my life right now" meet up.
Mimi, thanks for the gift. Wangi hand soap tu bah. I like!

Ladies, here's to a many more wonderful moments like this and let's toast  for a lifelong friendships.
Til next entry...

Japanese Lunch Date @ Wojamama Japanese Restaurant, 1Borneo Hypermall

Well, did I tell ya that I have a fondness for Japanese food? Yeah, I love them. So does Korean's. All things that not swimming in cooking oil, they'll definitely win me over. Anytime.

Last Friday, that would be 21st June 2013, I received an SMS, an invitation to be exact to a lunch soiree with my ex-colleagues. It was then decided that the lunch date venue would be in Wojamama Japanese Restaurant located at 1Borneo Hypermall KK. It was actually another farewell party (albeit a small party) and was a lunch treat by one of the lecturers in my former office. I liked the menu selections and yes, if I could, I'd love to sample them all :)  I had smoked duck (totally loved this!)  and crisp dory fish & chicken bento palate. Wojamama has an extensive menu selections of course. Beside the usual sushis, there are a la carte menus as well. Hmmm..I believe they do catering services too.  Prices are a bit on the expensive side though.

With Deedee..she looks like a Japanese, no? She's Kadazan btw..

Oh well, look at my rounded face..

My former colleagues. Lunch treat was courtesy of  Prof Dr Daw Khin Saw Naing, (2nd right)

with Deedee & Roza
All in all, it was a very nice lunch.

My Cousin's First Tattsperience!

Well, that's her. At first, she was so scared and kept on asking me whether it's painful or not. I told her, well,   of course it is. A little but the finished product worth the pain.

So, armed with her preferred design, off we went to the tattoo parlour. At first, she's like gasping and asking the tattooist to stop like, every single minute. Then it stretched to 5 mins. Then she stopped, sitting quietly. I believe the pain became a dull ache and she told me: just take some pics, as a reminder of my first 'tattsperience'. An hour and 15 minutes later, that's the finished product. For a tattoo that size, they only charged RM80!  I believe their prices are pretty cheap compared to other tattoo parlours in KK! Oh hey, they are located at Inanam. As of now, she's quite happy with the result, even planning on adding another, possibly in future.

Me? Well, I've already got my own design and when I showed it to the tattooist, he said: Good design. For this, only RM100!

I'm adding another. Soon.

Holidays a-coming!

Hello, luvlies :)

Christmas is coming and I'm mighty pleased as punch!

Here's wishing you'll get a great holidays, which I am anxiously looking forward to. I don't have a tree to decorate this year as I am currently in the midst of moving to a new apartment. My cuzzie and I are finally getting a place of our own - a 3-bedrooms apartment. Yay!!

However, my local parish (back in my kampong ) is sure gonna be having a great time for the Christmas celebration.  My friend told me that there's going to be a Family Day (a day before Christmas) for the church members. I can foresee fun times and interesting stuffs already.

I'll be heading back to my kampong on Dec 23rd for the celebration.  Meanwhile, have a great and merry holidays ahead, folks!

Luv & XOXO

The Random Eleven

Tagged by Lizee's (Eleven) and this would be the longest entry ever!

TERMS & CONDITIONS:
1.You must post these rules. 2.Each person must post 11 things about themselves in their journal. 3.Answer the questions the tagger set for you in their post. And create eleven new questions for the people you tagged to answer. 4.You have to choose 11 people to tag and link them on the post. 5.Go to their page and tell them you have tagged HIM/HER 6.No tag back! 7.No stuff in the tagging section about “YOU ARE TAGGED IF YOU ARE READING THIS” YOU LEGITIMATELY (a.k.a REALLY, TRUST, WITH ALL HONESTY) have tagged 11 people.

11 Facts of Enniebelle:

Fact #1: I’m the fourth child in my family (and the only bookworm!)

Fact #2: A dog and cat person.  Back home, we have quite a menagerie. Two cats, three dogs, 8 rabbits (and still counting!) and chickens!

Fact #3: When I was a little kid, I was extremely dark and small.  My siblings and cousins used to taunt me and called me a “Timorese” (No offense to Timorese, each of us are special and beautiful in our own way.  Peace, no war)

Fact #4: When I was in Form 2. there was this new cigu from Kelantan.  He was reed thin with wispy goatee. He had this high pitch, grating voice and quite garang.  On top of being a tyrant, he had a penchant for ‘wandering eyes’ and crude jokes and always leering on female students.  He complained endlessly about the state of my kampong. Saying things like: dekat sini tersangatlah ‘ulu’, saye tak beranilah nak minum air kat sini sebab tak terjamin kebersihan, kampong ni macam jakun, kat sini mak oiiii..panasnyer, banyak nyamuk, bla bla bla

One day, during moral education lesson (ironically, he taught us this subject and he’s the total jerk!), he ordered us to sit in groups and we were to elect a group leader.  I got elected, which I refused. So, our team were left with no group leader.  He said to me: Awaklah jadi ketua. To which I answered: terima kasih la cigu tapi saya tidak mau.  Lagipun setiap kalipun saya saja yang jadi ketua.  Bagi chance sama orang lain lagilah.  He thundered, with eyes bulging: Tidak, cheguuu nak awak jadi ketua.  Cheguuu tak peduli.  Kalau awak tak nak masuk kelas ni, awak boleh keluar sekarang juga.  Awak juga tidak dibenarkan untuk masuk kelas saya hinggalah peperiksaan akhir. Faham?!! (pointing his reed thin finger towards the exit door)

Embarrassed and feeling rebellious (Been bottling up my irritation because the whole class had to put up with his snide remarks about our beloved kampong), I slowly got up and said: Terima kasihlah cigu sebab beri saya pilihan untuk keluar dari kelas ni.  Lagipun, bukanya saya suka sangat cigu pun. Kalau cigu suda cakap saya tak payah masuk kelas, saya ikut saja. Off I went and straight to the library. I asked my classmates what happened after I stormed out off the class and they told me: the tyrant went red and if looks could kill, I would probably keel over halfway through the doorway! Well, true to my word, I never attended his class till the end of the semester and naturally, the cigu failed me in moral subject during final exam.  Next semester, another cigu took over and I’m happy to say, I scored A's :P

Fact #5:  During my growing-pains phase, the word ‘hostel’ is my bestfriend.  from the age of 13 to 22, my life was spent in hostels.  I wish I can live the other half, living out on a suitcase in hotels around the world! That’ll be a dream comes true! Well, a place of my very own will not be so bad either..

Fact #6: I wish I could strike up that TOTO jackpot bonanza! And when I do, I’ll settle my debts, buy properties, invest, make my family the happiest bunch on planet, give donations and fulfil that No.5 fact!

Fact #7:  I once said to a man:  sial ko, tiada kerja lain ka? Napa, ko tinguk kami ni macam ayam-ayam ka? You see, me and my cousin were walking, passing by a restaurant and there was this group of men eating.  One of them said leeringly:  punya main sadap! I’m no feminist but when it comes to this kind of thing, I’m a loose cannon.  To think that we weren’t wearing flashy and trashy clothes and he dared to utter such crude remarks was beyond me.  Well, the man turned red and I heard one of the men said: Nah, itulah ko.  Sembarang jak. Skarang suda terkena!

Fact #8:  When a relationship didn’t work out, I prefer to sever all ties with the ex.  There’s no point in keeping any relics from that phase of my life.

Fact #9:  I love going to karaoke! I’m a terrible singer and I might ruin your eardrums but hell, karaoke joints are people’s favourite past time!  You might scream, shriek, cry , croak, whimper, choke or anything but nobody is going to chastise you. Well, you might be teased mercilessly but that’s forgivable for the sake of harmless fun. hehehehe..

Fact #10:  Travelling! My lifelong wish is to tour Europe and Latin America! I yearn to feel the yearlong, wet rolling hills of Ireland, I long to see the Andeans and scale Machu Pichu, I want to feel the beautiful summer in Venice (was here in Dec 2007 during winter), I want to absorb the lights in the city of love – Paris, drink cafe’ au lait in the quaint and chic sidewalk cafes in Paris, be the revellers in Rio de Janeiro’s famous Carnival, go watch soccer live matches in Spanish La Liga, stand under the foot of Cristo Redentor (Christ the Redeemer) statue in Rio de Janeiro, soak up the sun in Greece’s Santorini Islands, inhale spring breaks in Amsterdam and the Netherlands. I want to stand in front of the world's most famous fountain, the Trevi Fountain in Rome, make a wish and throw my coin inside the pond (mumbo jumbo or not, I'd be the tourist no?). Gosh, I want to experience Rome, the whole of Italy!

Oh, must not forget the good ol’ USA: Living as an amnesiac in New York! I want to go bungee jumping in New Zealand.  Well, impossible it may to achieve but nothing's wrong in wishing and dreaming, no?  I need to go and rob the gold bars at Bank Negara a-la the Italian Job before I could achieve these lifelong wishes of mine.  Always harbour this secret fantasy of channelling my inner Kim Basinger in Real McCoy. Kekekekee

Fact #11:  when I love someone, it’s a sacred pledge and commitment.  And while I’m at it, I will never ditch my other love, “rationality”.  I might love someone to death but I will never abandon this dear ol’ love of mine.  Spoken like a woman who burnt too many times, no? There’s beautiful love and there’s dangerous love..

Lizee's  11 Questions:

1.  What is the most foolish thing you’ve ever done?
Not sure which word is the apt description of the thing I did.  Foolish or dangerous? I guess both.  This happened when I was a small girl.  Me and my cousins swam across a swollen and flooded river! The river was murky with strong currents and dangerous debris floating all around.  One knock on the head and there would be fatal consequences! We did it, successfully albeit with painful ‘rewards’ in the form of floggings, courtesy of our parents.  We gained notoriety, as ‘tsk tsk tsk crazy bunch’

2.  KFC or McDonald?
KFC.  McD is not my strong favourite.  If I could choose, it’ll be Burger King though!

3.  Favourite age you have been so far?
30’s has liberated me so! Being in this age has given me the licence to:
own a strong, liberated mind and life in general

Anchor my life around without some annoying interference of: you’re still young. somebody has to keep watch over you.  Whereas now: your life is your responsibility.  You’re now entitled to choose how you live it.  Just let us know from time to time how are you getting on and whether life is treating you fair.  We’ll always be your shoulders (those are the family’s pledge, bless them)

4.  Name one celebrity you can’t stand
That little shit called Justin Beaver! Ooopss..I meant, Bieber!

5.  Choose between these two super-powers: 1. Being invisible or 2. Being able to fly
Invisible.  I don’t think you’d still be able to spread your wings or whatever when you’re old, brittle and bedridden.  Well, you might be able to wiggle your fingers and toes a bit but...

6.  Do you talk to yourself out-loud? If yes, when do you normally do it?
Yes, I do.  Normally when I screw a task and have to redo it.  I will scold myself like : hiiiissssshhhh..buduh, buduh!

7.  Favourite cartoon characters of all time?
Can I answer cartoon characters? For me, The Looney Tunes.  Period.

8.  Do you have the habit of passing on chain letters/emails/texts to your friends?
Nope. They irritate the hell out of me.  Unless, they are accompanied by big fat cheques then I’ll surely pass the love around (Ouch! That sounds exactly like a classic materialistic bitch syndrome)  Fun games with friends, now that, I don’t mind

9.  What’s your favourite junk food? Pick one
Bin Bin rice crackers! No MSG! Believe me, this stuff is highly addictive

10.  Do you believe in luck?
Yes, I have faith in luck.

11.  What’s your idea of a perfect day?
Being pampered by your loved ones.  Nothing beats the glow of happiness of loving and being loved. It’s food for the soul.

Now, here’s my 11 questions to: AJJusdyTomPapajonehSuhaira WafiahBro NudistSweet WiskiesBella AceWina EdwinaDeanonaRose Ragai

1.  What type of a person are you? Loud or mousey?
2.  Still remember the first thing you bought/did with your first paycheck?
3.  Do you believe in relationships with no strings attached?
4.  If Armageddon strikes, the first thing you’ll do is..?
5.  Imagine yourself as a time traveller.  Which period of times/era would you like to revisit and why?
6.  Movie(s) that leaves a big impression and profound meaning in your life?
7.  Have you ever been in love or attracted to your bestfriend?
8.  Coffee or tea?
9.  Climbed any mountains yet?
10.  The biggest embarrassment you have encountered was..?
11.  Are you a romantic person by nature?

Elvinna's Journey To Womanhood..

ELVINNA. That's my younger sister's name. It was me who chose the name. I was 12 when she's born. I was with our mum when she's born. I visited her regularly in her hospital baby-crib, inside the incubator. She's so tiny, being born weeks earlier. I remembered being awed by her tiny and almost translucent skin. Her slants of chinese-like eyes. The soft, black tufts of shiny hair. Those tiny fists curled up, snaked with tubes with one going in inside her nose. So small and vulnerable. The nurses were saying: "Hey kid, here to visit your baby sister again? Don't worry, she's in a good hand. Will take good care of her. In three weeks time, you'd be able to kiss and cuddle her"  Three and a half weeks later, she went home and I was in awe. We call her Winna.

Winna - a year and a half ago..

2010..as a college freshman

a freshfaced college girl

She's now the youngest  in my family tree and the family has decided that as of now, until she's finished her school, she'll remain in my protective custody. Well, sort of..I must say that it's completely a challenge dealing with her transformation towards womanhood, teenage angst, boys trouble and peers pressures on 'how to be cooler within the cool circles'. I worried about her grades, about how she conducts herself living some kilometers away from my place (she's staying in a hostel provided by the college), on how she spends her weekly allowances, whether she studies diligently and many other questions that keeping me awake most nights.. In short, I've become some sort of a 'mother' to her.  Sometimes, I can't help it but I do nag her whenever she spends some weekends with me. I nag her about not buying too much unnecessary things like bags/shoes (she wears different shoes and carrying different slingbags every time she visits me!), roaming the malls once too often when there's no class, going to the K-Box with her classmates and  spending too much times on the internet - I could tell, because she constantly updates her Facebook status and don't the lecturers give her any assignments at all? Her cellphone rings and beeps endlessly too! She wears colored lenses and fake eyelashes too! Can you beat that?

Last Christmas: larking around..
with her classmates: towards the skinny jeans & sling bags journey

cradling our 3 months old niece in March this year..
we don't look alike, only sharing the same hair textures: straight jet-black hair
I guess, that's what have made her feels so reluctant to leave her hostel for my place every weekends! Nagging aside, I do understand her. After all, I was once a teenager. Albeit in a slightly different era (this makes me sound like ancient!) I do understand about the word freedom but in this case, she's only in her 19th years, a college student with a responsibility and like in many Asian countries, still requires protection/supervision by adults from time to time. Don't make mistake and judgment, we Asians of course not close minded.  Just treasuring and protecting our moral values from being trampled and stomped in today's moral decaying society! Well, my mum is not around to chastise her and I'm sort of like a 'deputy mom-sheriff'!

she's 19 years old now..

I guess, this is some sort of a training to me. My sister made me believe and gave me glimpses on what kind of a future mother I'll be. Some weekends, I'll sit with her and have some sister bonding moments with her over coffees, windows/grocery shoppings, painting our toenails & go for movies. One thing for sure, I'm not going to be a pushover. I don't condone rigid and extremely strict parenting. Nowadays, I limit my nagging. I still do but not as much as before.  She's a woman now and I trusted her to make a better judgment. I have faith in her, her journey to a wonderful, successful life and ultimately be her own woman. My role is only as a back-up,  a supporting hands whenever she falls down. And..a giving and loving sister..

All grown-up now as a pretty young lady.. 19 years have passed by since I first  laid  my eyes on her..how times fly

Hometown Glory

It's been sooo long since I last updated my dear bloggie with my picture. I mean, my own picture, preferably some recent, non-airbrushed nor photoshopped pics of yours truly.

If you ask me, did I get fat from my recent trip? No, I don't think so.  Last time when I checked my current stats at the clinic where I got treated for my sprained ankle: it was 47.6kgs. Lesser than the previous 51.3kgs.  In as much, I think I managed to control myself from indulging in gluttony, yunno, when in kampung, the glorious fete being offered to you by your over-indulging relatives is bound to torture your tastebuds! When you're watching your diet and weight like the proverbial hawk watching his preys, that can be a total killjoy! Anyhoo, I think I've succeeded a little because I just bought myself a pair 'daisy dukes' pants and I managed to squeeze myself inside it! What a real miracle! Gah, a little snug but better than nothing, no?  :P

To me dearest readers and followers, here are  pictures of my recent trip to my hometown in Ranau. Bunches of 'em are shots with my sisters, cousin and cutie pie niece :)

The majestic Mt. Kinabalu as my backdrop! :)

with my kid sister, cute as button niece and cousin
my sisters & niece. Ranau town sure is improving, cue: the sidewalk

..that's all for now. Will upload the rest of the pics soon. :)
